Insurance language and insurance claims procedures can be confusing and hard to understand. This course will teach you more about insurance basics, from general definitions to types of insurance plans, as it applies to patient access services.

COURSE OUTCOMES -- Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

- Review the 3 types of insurance
- Assess managed care plans
- Explain timely filing & EOB
- Understand workman's compensation rules
- Explain the birthday rule as well as determine which insurance is primary
- Define precertification and/or preauthorization and explain when it is needed
- Explain the differences in the Blue Cross plans
